Undergraduate Programme

Gauhati University, Guwahati, and its affiliated colleges have implemented the NEP 2020-led BA, B.Sc., and B.Com. courses from the academic session 2023-24. All these three- or four-year UG-level courses offer both major and minor courses. The college offers all three programmes (BA, B.Sc., and B.Com.) as per the notification and guidelines of Gauhati University, Guwahati, and the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Assam. The college is bound to accept any alterations or improvements notified by the university and government at any time.
Considering its various components and diverse structure, we present here a few significant points regarding the NEP (National Education Policy) 2020. As stated in the policy document and by Gauhati University, each course under the FYUGP (Four-Year Undergraduate Programme) is broadly divided into two parts: (a) Core Courses (subjects) and (b) Common Courses. As the names suggest, students study different core subjects (Major and Minor), while all students study the same common courses (AEC, MDC, VAC and SEC).
B. P Chaliha College offers Major and Minor in the following subjects:

ARTS:
Major: Assamese, English, Political Science, Education, Economics, Geography, History, Mathematics, and Arabic.

Minor: Assamese, Arabic, English, Economics, History, Political Science, Education, Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Sociology and Computer Science (excluding the subject chosen in major also subject-to fulfilment of pre-requisites conditions)

SCIENCE:
Major: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Mathematics and Zoology.

Minor: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Geography (excluding the subject chosen in major also subject-to fulfilment of pre-requisites conditions)

COMMERCE:
Major: Accountancy, Finance, Human Resource Management and Marketing Management
