Institution Innovation Council (IIC)


About

The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) is a body established in colleges and universities by the Ministry of Education Innovation Cell (earlier MHRD Innovation Cell) under the Government of India. Its main purpose is to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, startups, research, and creative problem-solving among students and faculty members.

In simple words, an IIC is an innovation and entrepreneurship cell inside an educational institution.


Institution Innovation Council (IIC) of BP Chaliha College

The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at BP Chaliha College, Nagarbera established in December 2023. This center aims to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among the students, faculty, and the local community in greater Nagarbera.


Aim and Objectives:

1. Promote Innovation: Encourage students and faculty to have entrepreneurial spirits and engage in innovative thinking and problem-solving ability.
2. Support Startups: Offer incubation support to budding entrepreneurs through mentoring, funding opportunities, and networking with industry experts and investors.
3. Research and Development: Facilitate research activities among the faculty members that lead to the development of new technologies and solutions addressing real-world challenges.
4. Collaboration and Networking: Foster collaboration between academia, industry, and government bodies to create a vibrant ecosystem for innovation.
5. Sustainable Development: Encourage the development of sustainable and socially responsible solutions that contribute to community and environmental well-being.
6. Intellectual Property Management: Assist innovators in protecting their intellectual property rights and navigating the patent process.


Major Areas

The major areas of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) include promoting innovation and creative thinking among students and faculty, developing entrepreneurship and startup culture, supporting research and product development, encouraging design thinking and problem-solving skills, creating awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) such as patents and copyrights, facilitating incubation and mentorship for innovative ideas, strengthening industry–institution interaction, organizing workshops, hackathons, and innovation competitions, and building an overall innovation ecosystem within the institution that connects academic learning with practical and societal applications.


Functions

The Major Functions of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) are:

1. Promote innovation and entrepreneurship culture in the institution.
2. Organize workshops, seminars, webinars, and expert lectures on innovation and startups.
3. Conduct hackathons, idea competitions, and innovation challenges.
4. Encourage students and faculty to develop innovative projects and prototypes.
5. Support startup activities and entrepreneurial initiatives.
6. Create awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), patents, and copyrights.
7. Facilitate incubation, mentorship, and industry interaction.
8. Identify and nurture creative and innovative ideas from students and faculty.
9. Encourage research, design thinking, and problem-solving approaches.
10. Collaborate with industries, startups, and innovation organizations.
11. Motivate participation in national innovation and startup programs.
12. Help build a strong innovation ecosystem within the institution.

1 The IIC of B. P. Chaliha college in collaboration with department of Chemistry observed Annual Innovation Day on 15/10/2025 as 15 October marks the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, 11th President of India. Prof. Firoza Ahmed, Head department of Economics, B.P.Chaliha College, served as the resource person. She discussed about the different types of Innovation like product innovation, Process Innovation, Service innovation etc. Total 85 numbers of students participated in the event. 2 A workshop on UV-Vis Spectrophotometry was arranged on 10th November, 2023 to enhance the practical knowledge on 0D reading of samples. The programme was successfully conducted by the resource person Dr. Manash Jyoti Deka, Department of Chemistry, B.P.Chaliha College, Nagarbera. 3 A workshop on the ‘Mushroom Cultivation Technique” was organized by the Department of Botany, B.P. Chaliha College, Nagarbera, Kamrup on 8-10th Dec 2023 under the guidance of Dr. Kamal Ch. Pathak, Principal of the College. The program was held in collaboration with the Department of Botany, B.P.Chaliha College, sponsored by DBT, Govt. of India. The coordinator of the Biotech Hub Chiranjib Mili stated the objective of the meeting, which was chaired by Dr. S.N. Das, Head of the Department. The resource person Prof. Sandeep Das from the Department of Biotechnology, Bodoland University gave a lecture on this topic and also trained the students for mushroom cultivation. 4 The Science Forum and Eco Club of B. P. Chaliha College celebrated National Science Day, on 28/02/2023 (Tuesday). This day is celebrated to mark the invention of the Raman Effect. The day is celebrated to encourage youth to understand the aspects of science and develop an interest in it. An innovative poster competition was organized among the school students in
Nagarbera. The topic of the poster was “Global Science for Global Wellbeing.
